Book Name: The Heroes of Badr
Author: Salauddin Jahangir
Hazrat Abu Muawiyah (RA), whose real name was Ubaidah ibn Harith al-Muttalibi, was one of the fourteen fortunate companions who were martyred in the Battle of Badr.
He belonged to the Banu Muttalib clan of the Banu Abd Manaf tribe and was the paternal uncle of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), being ten years older than him.
He was one of the earliest converts to Islam and publicly declared his faith despite his old age. He endured severe persecution and humiliation for his beliefs.
During the seventh year of Prophethood, when the Quraysh imposed a social boycott on the Prophet (PBUH) and his followers, he accompanied the Prophet and lived under extreme hardships, giving up his wealth and comfort.
Even after the boycott ended, persecution increased. The Prophet (PBUH) advised his companions to migrate to different lands, but Abu Muawiyah (RA) refused to leave without the Prophet. He said, "I will not leave without him. If I have to die, I will die by his side."
Eventually, when the Prophet (PBUH) decided to migrate to Madinah, he instructed Abu Muawiyah (RA) to do the same. Following the Prophet’s command, he migrated to Madinah.
Upon arriving in Madinah, he stayed at the house of Abdullah ibn Salama Ujlali (RA). In Makkah, the Prophet (PBUH) had paired him with Bilal (RA) as brothers in faith, and after migration, he was bonded with Umair ibn Humam Ansari (RA). The Prophet (PBUH) also granted him a piece of land to build his home.
