Surah An-Nisa (The Women), Verse 143:
Translation by Elmir Kuliyev:
They waver between this (belief and disbelief), but belong neither to these (believers) nor to those (disbelievers). For whomever Allah leads astray, you will never find a way.
Translation by Abu Adel:
Wavering in doubt between this [faith and disbelief]. They do not align themselves with these [believers] nor with those [disbelievers]. And if Allah leads someone astray (leaving them without guidance), you will not find a path for them!
---
Tafsir by As-Sa’di:
They waver between this (faith and disbelief) and do not belong either to these (believers) or those (disbelievers). Whoever Allah misguides, you will not find a path for them.
[Explanation]: Hypocrites waver between the believers and the disbelievers, not belonging fully in spirit or body to either. Their hearts are with the disbelievers, even if their physical presence is with the believers. This is the greatest form of misguidance imaginable. For this reason, Allah says that whomever He leads astray will not be able to find the correct path.
These individuals cannot return to the straight path or abandon their misguidance because the gates of divine mercy are closed to them, and they have earned Allah’s wrath. This description of the hypocrites highlights that true believers possess opposite qualities: they are sincere in soul and body. They are eager to perform prayers and acts of worship and frequently remember Allah, who guided them to the straight path. A wise person should reflect on these two paths and choose the most appropriate one. Only Allah can assist in this decision.

Tafsir by Ibn Kathir:
Allah\'s words:
(مُذَبْذَبِينَ بَيْنَ ذلِكَ لاَ إِلَى هَـؤُلاءِ وَلاَ إِلَى هَـؤُلاءِ)
\"Wavering between this, neither belonging to these nor to those\" means hypocrites waver between faith and disbelief. They are not committed to the believers, either outwardly or inwardly, and similarly, they are not entirely aligned with the disbelievers. Outwardly, they appear with the believers, but inwardly they are with the disbelievers.
Some hypocrites are overcome with doubts, aligning with one side at times and with the other at other times. Allah describes them elsewhere:
\"(كُلَّمَآ أَضَآءَ لَهُم مَّشَوْا فِيهِ وَإِذَآ أَظْلَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ قَامُواْ)\"
\"Whenever it lights up for them, they walk therein, but when darkness covers them, they stand still\" (Surah Al-Baqarah: 20).
Mujahid said: (مُذَبْذَبِينَ بَيْنَ ذلِكَ لاَ إِلَى هَـؤُلاءِ) refers to neither being with the companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) nor with the Jews.
