- The Land of Fathers (Otamdan qolgan dalalar) -

#review

Great film about Turkistan during the entire USSR period.

It contains two parts, but to leave a lasting impression, the first part is enough; it shows the circumstances between the first Russian invasion and a half-century after that.

I like the way the filmmakers showed the real faces of the oppressors, examined our own mistakes, and bravely admitted our Islamic roots. Maybe this is why it’s banned from official TV channels today.

If you live in these lands or just want to understand Turkistan's current situation, it’s a good option to start with.

As for the quotes, there are many meaningful ones, but a simple phrase by Kurban Kyrgyz caught my attention when he says:

— “Uzbek is like a plane tree; strikes roots deeply only in his native land.”

Interestingly, unlike most of my friends, I also prefer to “strike roots deeply” in my country. Maybe it’s part of our genetics.)) ...

Yet, to that phrase, Jamaliddin answers:

— “But one day, a storm starts raging and sweeps him far away...”
